Summer is here, and that means your coastal commercial space is open for business!

Whether your space is exclusively open for summer patrons or you experience an influx of traffic during the warmer months, odds are you need a flooring product that can withstand the heavy foot traffic and potential sand and dirt being tracked through your space by post-beach customers. Being located near the Jersey Shore ourselves, our team has a lot of experience with coastal commercial flooring. So, today we’re sharing our favorite products for beach town businesses that need robust flooring.

1. Tile

This one shouldn’t come as a surprise. Porcelain and ceramic tile have long been used for coastal commercial spaces because it’s easy to clean and maintain and is a sturdy product that protects against long-term wear and tear. The common concern with tile flooring is the aesthetic. While it may work perfectly in some spaces, areas looking to create a warmer, more comfortable feeling may be hesitant to try tile.

The good news is that tile doesn’t have to fall under the cold and dreary status quo; in fact, many tile products are even manufactured now to look like wood planks. You can also opt for a vibrant mosaic design to set the tone of your space, and if you’re looking for an eclectic warmer look, then you’d be excited to learn that terracotta tile has been making a major comeback lately.

2. Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT)

While it may have “tile” in the name, LVT is far from the traditional tile product. Unlike ordinary tile, which has to be cemented down with mortar and can be time-consuming to install, commercial LVT planks are less cumbersome and usually only require installation with adhesive. In addition, it’s a cost-effective choice, while also being durable and moisture and water-resistant. However, while it is robust, LVT could be scratched by sand particles tracked in by patrons from the beach. So, if your establishment is seaside, then this is something to consider.

One of our favorite qualities about LVT is its versatility when it comes to design. Not only can it mimic wood flooring, but LVT can also look like tile or stone and comes in various colors and styles sure to fit the aesthetic of any commercial space.

3. Linoleum

If utilizing sustainable materials in your space is important to you, then linoleum might be a great choice. Not only does it match the durability of tile and LVT, it is waterproof, cost-effective, and simple to install. So, if you’re looking for an eco-conscious product that can withstand some hefty foot traffic, then linoleum could be what you’re looking for.

Another bonus with linoleum is the range of design options. It’s hard not to find a linoleum product that suits your space’s style and aesthetics because the options are virtually limitless. For instance, linoleum is often used to add a pop of color to an otherwise plain space, making it an affordable, greener choice for design lovers.
